Frances is housed in the previous visa section of the former US Embassy in Oslo, facing Henrik Ibsens gate and the Palace Garden and is a place that transforms during the day. Named after Frances Elisabeth Willis, the US ambassador to Norway from 1957 to 1961.

We are first andforemost a bar, so you can drop by anytime for drinks and bar snacks – no reservation needed, but please do if you feel for it...
Frances ligger i det tidligere visumrommet i den amerikanske ambassaden i Oslo, ut mot Henrik Ibsens gate, og er et sted som forvandler seg gjennom dagen. Oppkalt etter Frances Elisabeth Willis, amerikansk diplomat, ambassadør til Norge fra 1957 til 1961.

Vi er først og fremst en bar, så det er ikke nødvendig med bordbestilling, men du får lov om du vil.....

WINE

We have an extensive wine list with more than 2,500 different entries. Here, you'll find all the most important wine regions and producers – as well as rising stars. We offer a wide selection of wines by the glass.

We experiment with styles, and our restaurant manager, Elisabeth Hagelsteen, always has something new and exciting on the by-the-glass list. On certain days, we open magnum bottles and older vintages.

Vi har et omfattende vinkart med mer enn 2500 ulike oppføringer. Her finner du alle de viktigste vinområdene og produsentene– og de kommende stjernene. Vi har stort utvalg viner på glass.

Vi leker med stiler og restaurantsjef Elisabeth Hagelsteen vil alltid ha noe nytt og spennende på glass listen. Enkelte dager vi åpner magnumflasker og eldre årganger.

Tastings

Chambre

We have a private Chambre séparée for up to 16 people, perfect for those who want a bit more privacy, whether for a private tasting or a special event. The room can be reserved during the wine bar’s opening hours. Contact us at restaurant@frances.no.

Food

Head chef Tzahi Anidjar creates inventive small dishes with flavors from the Mediterranean and the Middle East – along with classic bar snacks like oysters and fried duck wings. Healthy and flavorful lunch dishes are also available. All dishes are meant to be enjoyed either individually or shared.

Coffee

We start the day early with fresh coffee from our supplier, KAFFA, and tea from Newby. Freshly baked goods and made-to-order sandwiches are prepared in-house. Take a seat with us and enjoy a warm coffee and a bite to eat, or grab it to go.
